COCKNEY
INFLUENCE
ON THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE
ON THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE

This talk looks at how the Cockney dialect from the East End of London started, how it works and how it has affected the English language today. Cockney is an old rhyming slang dialect which originated from the East end of London. Although no-one speaks fluent Cockney any more, residents in this area of London still use a lot of words. But many Cockney words have slipped into the English language and are used in everyday speech all over England. Some Cockney slang has made it into dictionaries.
This talk takes participants on a journey from its beginnings , to how it evolved and eventually to how it is amongst the language today.
